As a person on Facebook who resents being on Facebook, I liked the article. My wife is into it big time, but I ignore half of my friend requests. I just don't care to keep in contact with most people I'm not in contact with now.
This line cracked me up: "...that those who opt out seem to be making a curious, stubborn statement, like those last few cell-phone holdouts once did." I STILL don't have a cell phone, but the authors assumes everyone has given in.
I was planning on quoting the same text as Robert, but for a different reason. I can picture myself several years ago ranting about cell phones taking over our lives, invading our privacy, etc. When I finally broke down and got one, joined the crowd- I felt silly about all the fuss I made. And reading that quote, I got an eerie feeling that my refusal to join Facebook may have more to do with "making a curious, stubborn statement" than I'd like to admit. I guess the big test will come next week when we cover social networking. To join or not to join... :)
Interesting! Facebook really does seem a parallel universe at times.
